Europe’s best sommelier 2006 is Norwegian

The Ruinart Trophy for Best Sommelier in Europe 2006, which took place in Paris on 18th June, was awarded to Robert Lie.

He’s from Norway, 25 and is wine waiter at Bagatelle restaurant (two stars in the Red Guide) in Oslo. He’s only been a sommelier for five years.

He’s the first Norwegian to receive this honour. Although the 2004 trophy was already in Nordic hands, when Suede Andreas Larsson won it.

Robert Lie knocked out Swiss Paolo Basso, 39, world runner up in 2000 and European runner up in 2004.
